We recently received an email from a financial planner who is totally frustrated with the financial services industry. Here is what he wrote:

Subject: A meaningful, purposeful, career change

Message Body:

Hi Team,

I’m a disillusioned ex-bank lender now financial planner wanting to make a more valued contribution to the financial lives of the members of my community.

I’m tired of banks just wanting to layer more and more debt onto people whilst giving them no guidance or assistance as to a way out. I like to call them financial drug dealers, encouraging a social epidemic of addiction to debt whilst offering no cure for the curse.

My experience in financial planning is to just sell financial products to people that they don’t understand and then charge excessive fees for an annual review process that really could be automated at much less cost to the client.

Neither options seems to be helping everyday people break the cycle of debt, not making ends meet and living paycheck to paycheck.

I’m therefore interested to hear more about what you offer and how I might be able to turn Spending Planning into a viable business/career that aligns with my values and gives both meaning and purpose to what I do in making a real contribution to people’s financial lives.

I look forward to discussing this with you.

Regards,

X (Frustrated Financial Planner)
