There is more than one way to skin a Cat

By David Wright

I’m sure you have heard the saying “There’s more than one way to skin a cat”. I’m not sure where that saying came from but it certainly is true that there’s more than one way to get to the same outcome.

Take how you use your computer for example. Everyone learns how to use their computer in different ways – either based on experience, instruction or trial and error. I’ll bet that your work colleagues and family members will know and use different shortcuts and ways to use their computer than what you can do.

Here’s a computer shortcut you may not know: Use your ALT key and the TAB key at the same time to switch between the windows you are working in. If you have a number of windows open, repeat pressing the TAB key to switch between all the windows that appear on screen until you have the right one, and release.

When you know little shortcuts like this, you can speed up your productivity significantly in the course of a day. And this is the same for whatever shortcuts you know in life.

The people you find who are faster or more productive and who seem to run rings around the rest of us, have probably just found their shortcuts to stay competitive.

Anyway, my point is people who often struggle to get on top of their day to day finances haven’t found their alternative shortcuts to solve their problems. Instead they are throwing money at their problems and being carried along by circumstances rather than determining what they will and won’t spend their money on.

At some points of our life you just have to do what you have to do. I remember when my car was off the road and I had to ride my push bike and get lifts from friends and work mates.

As I’ve often sought out what that other way to skin a cat is, I’ve perhaps not always taken the smarter route. When my refrigerator ran out of gas for the 3rd time and I had no money for a new one, I phoned up the refrigerator mechanic who had re-gassed it the last time to ask if it was possible for me to fix the leak. After he told me where the leak was likely to be, I pulled the fridge to pieces until I found it. Using araldite and rags I glued up the leaky pipe and got a few more years out of it. This may not have been the smartest way to go, but I then had the time to save up for a new one.

I didn’t throw money at my problem that time, and it worked out okay. I saved the money I needed before making an investment in a new fridge when I could afford it.

You do not have to subscribe to the “I have to buy a new one” mentality.

However, if you are tired of the money stress and finding that other way to skin a cat because you can only afford that more often than not, perhaps it’s time you reviewed your options.

There is an alternative to your money stress.

The time came when I was tired of finding the other way to skin a cat and it set me on the path to creating “Spending Planner” software. This software is the tool that Certified Spending Planners now use to help so many Australians break out of their cycle.

Thankfully, I no longer need to constantly be searching for shortcuts in my life to enhance my productivity, or to decrease my money stress, or to be competitive with my colleagues.

I’ve learnt many more shortcuts to financial success along the way.

Just like me, many other users of the software are regularly saying things just like this Perth client, “You do not realise the relief you get when you just tell someone your problems…The weight starts lifting off your shoulders just by taking the step to better your life”.

“I appreciate the advice, the support and most of all that look I get that drives me to be debt free”.
